Route 2 Literary Journal
Only a few short weeks left to submit poetry, fiction and art to
Route 2: Literary Journal
Have you got poetry, fiction or art that you’d like to share? Route 2, a Literary Journal produced by FSC is accepting submissions. But the time to submit is running out, the deadline: November 1st.
Route 2 is a Literary Journal produced by FSC’s Department of English. The journal is made up of a collection of “thoughtful, well-crafted contemporary poetry, fiction, and art,” submitted by students and members of FSC. Route 2 is open to all students at FSC. You can submit your work to Route 2 by emailing route2@fsc.edu. For more information about Route 2, you can visit www.fsc.edu/route2.
“Route 2 isn't so much a new journal as it is a reinvention of the college's previous literary journal, The Miller Hall Folio. The English Department felt that it was time to breathe some new energy into a publication that had gone defunct.” said Dr. Ian Williams of the English Department.
The first Route 2 Literary Journal was published in the Spring of 2007. It was created to replace and refresh FSC’s old literary journal, The Miller Hall Folio. There are some requirements for pieces that are submitted to Route 2. Fiction or creative writing pieces should be double spaced, and should not exceed 3,000 words. It is also preferred that art submitted can be reproduced in black and white.
It is hoped that Route 2 becomes a FSC tradition each semester for the English Department. Route 2 is an opportunity to give students at FSC a chance to share their creativity and passions with their peers.
Students of Dr. Ian Williams ’ Poetry Writing class will be responsible for selecting the poetry, fiction, and art that will be published in this semester’s Route 2. Each student in the Poetry Writing class has been assigned different jobs to help create Route 2 this semester; from hanging posters all over campus to promote Route 2; to organizing local “Open Mic. Nights,” to planning the Route 2 Launch Party.
The Poetry Writing class has also gone as far to create a Route 2 “group” on the ever so poplar Facebook. Anyone can join this group, just search for “Route 2.” Here you can find information about local Poetry Readings, share you work if you like, and discuss poetry, fiction and art with your peers. Perhaps by joining the Route 2 group on Facebook, you can find others who create poetry, fiction and art, or at the very least, others who appreciate poetry, fiction and art.
Don’t hesitate submitting your work, start looking through those old notebooks of yours today! Or if you’re feeling creative, find something that inspires you and write some poetry, or a short story to share with your fellow students! You don’t have anything to lose by submitting your work to Route 2, you are being given an opportunity to have your work shared and appreciated by others. If you are unable to submit your work this semester, please think to do so next semester, and make sure to pick up a copy of Route 2 on campus.

I realize I've been really bad lately about updating my blog. This is no good, because I am s'posed to be keeping up with it for a class. woops. My apologies Dr. Roumas.
Well, I have a party/event to write about. My boyfriend graduated from Police Academy Friday, November 16th and I am throwing him a suprise graduation party this Friday. I have been planning this party since early Spetember.
It is being held at my home-town's VFW. The guest list includes his close friends, along with some not close friends I s'pose. You know, people he hangs out with at parties and generally likes. The entire Police Dept. of our town is basically invited and I believe a good number of them will be coming. Also his family members and some of my family members. I even went as far as inviting other student officers he attended Police Academy with... this was a challenge, because I had to obtain thier emails without him knowing.
The decorations with be mostly blue and white. I got plastic handcuffs as centerpieces for tables; a police hat for the buffet table and a giant badge that reads "Special Police," for my boyfriend to wear when he enters the party.
As for music, I have hand-selected each song. HAHA. This is not as easy as it seems, chosing 5 hours worth of music to satisfy the likes of several 20 somethings, grandparents and the Chief of Police. I picked a lot of classic rock, some hip-hop I guess you'd call it, some rap without swears or degrating phrases (this was difficult), even some Micheal Jackson and MC Hammer. Part of me is worried this party music will bring us back to the days of middle school dances. But whatever, this is a very mixed group of people and tastes I'm sure, so I did a variety of music. The Cops Theme song is def. being played when he enters the room. "Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?"
Hopefully all will go well. Music + friends + food + booze usually equals a good time had by all, hopefully that's all we will need and hopefully the party will be a lot of fun. I'm not too worried about that.
I will give an update after the actual party itself.
Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving all!

Pumpkin Carving Get Together
This year marks the 5th year I will be having a few of my close friends over to carve pumpkins. I am a Halloween nut and am very excited about celebrating the upcoming Day of the Dead. Costumes, candy, scary movies, tricks, I love it all and will find any excuse to participate in this spooky Holiday. One day I plan to have a huge annual Halloween party; but for now, I live in my parent’s home and can only have a small get together. Never the less, I still put lots of thought and effort into this event and making it a memorable and fun occasion. I love to decorate cakes, so I will of course be making a Halloween Funfetti Cake with Orange Frosting and decorated like a pumpkin. I also bought Halloween plates, cups and napkins. I plan on decorating the table with some dried fallen leaves from outside, the pumpkin cake, a miniature pumpkin, and some cute Halloween cards I have received. Pumpkin carving is always a good time, because everyone is up to their elbows in pumpkin guts and basically grossed out, but in a fun way. We usually have some classic Halloween themed movie on in the background, like It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. My friend Bobby always brings candy corn flavored soda from Target (which everyone thinks is disgusting but chokes down anyways.) Each year I try to add just a little to my Halloween collection, and this year I bought a new bowl for Trick or Treaters, some new Halloween cookie cutters, more pumpkin carving tools, and a Spooky Sound Effects cd.
This picture was taken last year at Pumpkin Carving 2006. My friend Michelle decided to carve my friend Bobby’s face… it came out great!

Event Planning
I think I have finally found a subject I would like to write about on a daily, if not weekly basis. I have always loved planning events. Birthday parties, get togethers, Halloween parties, cook-outs, movie nights... you name it. Since high school, I have been the one to organize and plan most of the parties my friends and I attended. Friends from high school still call me up to figure out what to do and how to get everyone together. So I would like the focus of my blog to become Event Planning. Event planning is really my highest interest. I love getting people together, creating themes, celebrating and making sure people have a good time!
My blog is going to be focused on how to theme, plan, organize, and host exceptional parties!
Perfect!

7 Year Marriage Renewal
This weekend, my dad was telling me about this new law that some idiots are trying to pass... Since the divorce rate is so high, I guess a new law some people want to pass is a Marriage Renewal... I guess around the 7th year of marriage, couple tend to get a divorce... so the new law they want to come up with would give you the option to renew your marriage every 7 years, or at least after the first or give you the option to walk away without having to go through a messy divorce and such.
What are they going to say when giving your vows now... "do you take this man to be your lawful wedded husband for the next 7 years and maybe then some?"
This is SO dumb! If you think there is a good chance you will want to get a divorce after 7 years, why would you get married in the first place?
I'm going to have to do some research on this... I'll get back to you.

Monday Morning Movie Review - Resident Evil: Extinction
I thought this movie was awful. Not that my opinion matters, but I didn’t like it and would like my $8.50 back please. I was dragged to see this film because my boyfriend wanted to see it; and I for one am not a fan of scary movies. I am easily frightened and this movie made me jump too much and was too loud with screaming zombie like creatures. There was also a great deal of gore which I am also not a fan of. The plot however has its appeal I suppose, the end of the world, a virus that turns mankind into flesh eating mutants; it was interesting to say the least. It was also easy to follow and understand, considering I haven’t see the first two Resident Evil movies as of yet. This movie did have an effect on me, because at exactly 12:36am this morning I had woken up from a nightmare where I was about to be tortured by these filthy desert dwelling individuals with crazed looks in their eyes.

Blog #1
Cali-Veda is not my real name. I have decided to keep my real name private so that I may write more freely; without having to worry about what anyone thinks, or who may read my work.
